A Pattern Keeper alternative for iPad
Pattern Keeper hasn’t been released for iPad (its site says an iOS version is planned). Flossmark opens the same “Pattern Keeper compatible” PDF charts on iPad. Add it to your Home Screen from Safari, and it costs £9.99 once, with no subscription.

Chart apps on iPad today
Pattern Keeper is Android-only for now. Its FAQ says iOS is planned and in early development. The main iPad chart app is Markup R-XP, which is well reviewed and costs $9.99 for the full version or $19.99 a year. Flossmark is another option: a web app that installs to your Home Screen, with a one-off price.
Setting it up on iPad
- Open flossmark.onibaku.co.uk/app in Safari.
- Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Flossmark opens full screen from its icon and works offline.
- Tap Choose a PDF and pick the chart from Files (or from iCloud Drive, Dropbox or wherever your downloads are).
Using it from the Home Screen icon matters on iPad: Safari can clear website storage for sites you haven’t visited in a while, but a Home Screen app keeps its own storage. Flossmark also asks Safari to keep your charts, and a backup file is one tap away.
Marking on iPad
- Tap a square to mark it, or drag along a row. Apple Pencil works the same way.
- Pinch to zoom and two fingers to move. Switch to Move if you’d rather move the chart with one finger.
- Tap a thread to highlight it. Everything else fades and the stitches left are outlined.
- Choose pink, yellow or green highlighter, and Symbols or Colours view.

Pattern Keeper and Markup R-XP are established apps with features Flossmark doesn’t have yet (backstitch tracking, for one). If you’re on a device they support, they’re worth a look. Flossmark exists for the devices they don’t reach.
Questions
Does it work on iPhone too?
Yes, though a chart is easier to follow on a bigger screen. Your licence covers three browsers, so you can use iPad and iPhone.
Will Safari delete my charts?
Not if you use Flossmark from its Home Screen icon. Safari’s seven-day clean-up counts days you use an app without opening the site, and a Home Screen app has its own count. Keep a backup anyway: “Save a backup” on the chart list.
Can I import charts from Etsy?
Yes. Download the PDF from your Etsy purchases into Files, then choose it in Flossmark. Pick the file marked “Pattern Keeper” or “PK” if the download has several.
