Flossmark Open Flossmark

A Markup R-XP alternative for Android

Markup R-XP only runs on iPhone and iPad. On Android you have Pattern Keeper, the long-standing favourite, and Flossmark: a web app that installs from Chrome, opens the same PDF charts and moves your progress to Windows, Chromebook or iPad with a backup file.

Your Android options

If you’ve moved from an iPad to an Android tablet, or you stitch with friends who use Markup R-XP, there’s no Android version to follow you. Pattern Keeper is the obvious Android choice and costs $9 for life. Flossmark is worth a look if you also stitch on a computer, a Chromebook or an iPad, because the same purchase works in three browsers and a backup file carries your charts between them.

Installing it on Android

  1. Open flossmark.onibaku.co.uk/app in Chrome.
  2. Tap the menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  3. Open it from its icon. It works offline from then on.

What’s the same as other chart apps

  • Imports “Pattern Keeper compatible” PDFs, including multi-page charts.
  • Highlights one thread at a time, with stitches left per colour.
  • Tap or drag to mark, undo, pinch to zoom.

What’s different

  • Runs on Windows, Chromebook and iPad as well as Android.
  • Shows the chart’s own symbols, cropped from the PDF, or thread colours.
  • Doesn’t track backstitch or French knots yet.

Pattern Keeper and Markup R-XP are established apps with features Flossmark doesn’t have yet (backstitch tracking, for one). If you’re on a device they support, they’re worth a look. Flossmark exists for the devices they don’t reach.
