Mark off every stitch
Open the PDF chart you bought on your Windows tablet, Chromebook, iPad or Android, and mark stitches off as you go. Tap or drag across squares, highlight one colour at a time, and see exactly how much of each thread is left.
Free for one chart at a time. £9.99 once for as many as you like.
Go on, mark a few
That’s the whole idea. Drag along a row and the squares get a highlighter stroke, like a pen on a printed chart, except you can undo it and it counts for you.

It reads the chart, not a picture of it
Flossmark looks inside the PDF for the grid and the symbols the charting program drew, finds the same symbols in the key, and reads the thread number beside each one. Then it joins the pages together using the row and column numbers printed along the edges.
So you get the designer’s own symbols, every DMC number from the key, and the true stitch count for each colour. We checked it against the stitch counts printed in real designers’ keys, and they matched to the stitch.
- Symbols in any font, including the special symbol fonts charting programs use, and symbols drawn as shapes or tiny pictures
- Colour-block charts, with or without symbols on top
- Charts over many pages, joined by their numbers, even when pages repeat a couple of rows or count from the other side
- Keys in any layout: tables, lists down the side, three columns, a row under each page
- Half and quarter stitches, counted with their colour
It can’t read a scan or photo of a printed chart. Most designers include a chart-app PDF in the download; here’s how to spot it.

One purchase covers three browsers, and a backup file carries your charts and progress between them.
How a stitching session goes
Import the chart once
Choose the PDF from your downloads. A 40-page chart takes a few seconds, and it’s saved on the device from then on.
Pick the colour you’re stitching
Tap a thread and every other colour fades back, with the stitches still to do outlined.
Mark as you go
Tap one square or drag along a row. Pinch to zoom, two fingers to move, and undo if you slip.

Questions
Which charts does it open?
Charts made by charting software and saved as a PDF, the kind designers label “Pattern Keeper compatible” or “for chart apps”. We’ve tested charts from PCStitch, KG-Chart, Stitch Fiddle, FlossCross, Spriter and spreadsheet exports, with symbols in any font or drawn as shapes, colour-block charts, and charts spread over many pages. Other programs that save real symbols should work too. Most designers include one of these PDFs in the download alongside the printable version.
What doesn’t it open?
Charts that are a picture: a scan or photo of a printed chart, or a PDF that is just an image of the chart. There are no symbols in those to read. If a chart won’t import, Flossmark says why and you can send an anonymous report (the program that made it and the page count, nothing else).
Does it work on my Windows tablet, Chromebook or iPad?
Yes. Flossmark runs in the browser and installs like an app: in Edge or Chrome choose “Install Flossmark”, and on iPad choose Share, then “Add to Home Screen”. It works offline once it’s installed, so you can stitch on the train.
Are my charts uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is read on your own device and the chart and your progress are saved in your browser. Nothing about your charts is sent to us or anyone else. The only time anything leaves the device is the optional failure report, which you choose to send.
Can I move my progress to another device?
Yes. “Save a backup” makes one file with every chart and its marked stitches. Open it with “Restore a backup” on your other device and carry on. If both devices have the chart, the newer progress wins.
What do I get for £9.99?
Unlimited charts, for good, in up to three browsers (say your tablet, laptop and phone). The free version has every feature but keeps one chart at a time. It’s a one-off payment, not a subscription, with refunds within 14 days.
Is it a pattern designer?
No. Flossmark is for stitching from charts you already have: marking progress, highlighting a colour, and counting what’s left. It doesn’t make or edit patterns.
Does it handle backstitch and French knots?
Not yet. Version 1 tracks full and part stitches; backstitch lines and French knots are left out of the count so they don’t get in the way. The original chart still shows them.
